Rainer Cup: Campaign for Equal Justice Fundraiser

May 13th, 2016 - Carmichael Clark

Many confronted with legal issues lack the resources to hire an attorney help them navigate those issues. If those legal issues are not criminal, there is likely no right to a lawyer at public expense. To help fill this gap, the Legal Foundation of Washington provides funding to the local civil legal aid programs across Washington. Its annual fundraising drive is the Campaign for Equal Justice.

In Whatcom County we are very proud of our local legal aid program, LAW Advocates (Legal Assistance by Whatcom Advocates). Not only is this non-profit a state-wide leader in the quality of the free legal services and programming it provides, Whatcom attorneys currently lead the state in percentage of participation in giving to the Campaign for Equal Justice. That has earned Whatcom County the Rainier Cup. The Rainier Cup was created to encourage contributions and recognize the county with the highest participation of attorneys. LAW Advocates recently participated in a phone-a-thon event to once again garner donations from local attorneys.

Through LAW Advocates and similar programs, attorneys volunteer their time and talent to help those in need navigate the legal system and they financially support legal aid programs to ensure income is no barrier to justice.

LAW Advocates and the Campaign for Equal Justice are also hosting a fundraising event called Beer for Justice Thursday, June 23, at Chuckanut Brewery. The event will also be a pep rally to supporting the athletes participating on behalf of LAW Advocates in the June 25 Padden Triathlon.
